Charged for Allegedly Attempting to Bribe a Police Officer

On 16 September 2021, Xu Shoupei (“Xu”) (许守培) (29-year-old male People’s Republic of China national), will be charged in Court for allegedly attempting to bribe a police officer.

2. On 4 July 2021, Xu allegedly attempted to offer a bribe of S$76 on two occasions to Special Constable Ong Shu Hong, as an inducement to refrain from conducting an identity check on him and to release him from police custody. The bribe offers were rejected by Special Constable Ong, and the case was subsequently referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB). For his actions, Xu faces two charges punishable under Section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

3. Singapore adopts a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption. It is a serious offence to bribe or attempt to bribe public officers. Any person who is convicted of a corruption offence can be fined up to S$100,000 or sentenced to imprisonment of up to five years or to both.
